PHY 170 Concepts in Chemistry and Physics

Description: This is a combined physics and chemistry course specifically tailored to nursing majors. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between physics and physiology as well as chemistry and pharmacology and specific examples from medical science are used wherever possible. Topics covered include the periodic table, buffers and solutions, chemical nomenclature, kinematics, Newtonian mechanics, thermodynamics, gases, and fluid mechanics. Emphasis is placed on dimensional analysis, algebraic calculation, graphical data analysis, and quantitative problem solving.

4 credits (3 hours of lecture + 1 hour of discussion + 2 hours of lab)
