BEGR 430 Introduction to Bioinformatics

(with Prof. William Terzaghi)

Description: This is an online course that focuses on the practical aspects of bioinformatics that are most useful to biology and bioengineering students (cross listed as BIO 330). Topics covered include searching and understanding databases of biological information, performing sequence alignments, constructing molecular phylogenies, in silico cloning, molecular structure visualization and manipulation, homology modeling, and modeling of metabolic networks. The course utilizes web-based resources and open-source software packages and emphasizes the practical aspects of bioinformatics most relevant to experimentalists.
